About me
Behind the Lens: The Art of Reinvention
My name is James Radford Jr., and my goal is to be one of the Lake of the Ozarks’ premier photographers—capturing life not just through the camera, but through creativity, innovation, and connection.
Photography has been part of my story for as long as I can remember. I picked up my first SLR film camera as a kid and was instantly hooked. By the time I graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Photography, the industry was in the middle of its great transformation from film to digital. Being on the front lines of that shift gave me a rare perspective—one foot in the timeless craft of film, the other in the limitless possibilities of digital. That balance still shapes my work today, allowing clients to experience the best of both worlds.
Over the years, I’ve expanded beyond photography into marketing, branding, and social media strategy—learning how visual storytelling connects audiences and drives engagement. My work behind the lens now blends artistic vision with marketing insight, helping brands and organizations tell authentic stories that stand out in a crowded digital world.
I’m constantly reinventing myself, exploring AI tools, digital media trends, and emerging marketing platforms to stay ahead of the curve. The industry never stops evolving, and neither do I. Whether I’m building campaigns, creating content, or experimenting with new editing techniques, I’m driven by one goal—to capture emotion, inspire reflection, and bring stories to life in ways that resonate.
While I love the artistry of studio work, my passion lies in mixing controlled lighting with natural settings—bringing the precision of the studio into the unpredictability of the outdoors. That’s where creativity happens: where technical mastery meets raw emotion.
For me, photography—and marketing—are both about the same thing: seeing differently. It’s about using light, technology, and imagination to reveal the beauty and meaning in everyday life.
Social Media
Over the last several years, I’ve been developing my own style in social media, blending photography, video, infographics, and blog posts to create engaging, ongoing stories that connect with people in different ways. Not everyone likes scrolling through endless videos—some still prefer to read, while others appreciate the art of a well-designed graphic. I’ve found that mixing these mediums creates a balanced, authentic approach that keeps audiences engaged and builds a lasting narrative.

Video
Over the last three years, I’ve been working with Kids Cove Respite Home, creating impactful content that captures the attention of the community and tells a story of hope and purpose. Through a mix of videos, social media campaigns, and visual storytelling, I’ve helped raise awareness and generate more than $300,000 in fundraising. This experience has strengthened my belief in the power of authentic, emotionally driven content—proving that when creativity and purpose align, it can truly inspire people to take action.

Info Graphic
Infographics have become one of my favorite tools in digital storytelling. They play a powerful role in great marketing—simplifying complex ideas, highlighting problems, and clearly illustrating solutions in a way that captures attention at a glance. A well-designed infographic doesn’t just inform; it connects, engages, and inspires people to take action.

Blog Post
There’s nothing I enjoy more than blogging—it’s where I get to share my thoughts, creativity, and perspective with the world. With the advent of AI, I’ve been able to take that passion to a whole new level. As someone with dyslexia, writing used to be a slow and sometimes frustrating process, often requiring help from my wife or mom before I could publish anything. Now, AI tools allow me to express myself freely, refine my ideas, and share them with confidence. It’s not just about convenience—it’s about empowerment. Technology has helped me turn what was once a challenge into one of my greatest strengths, allowing me to share my worldview and story faster and more effectively than ever before.
Photography
Still photography is my preferred medium because it offers a unique ability to capture story, emotion, and detail in a single frame. I am drawn to the interplay of color, texture, and light—using each intentionally to create images that are visually engaging and emotionally resonant. My goal is to craft photographs that invite viewers into a moment, allowing them to feel the atmosphere and experience the story behind the lens.
I approach every shot with a focus on composition, depth of field, and lighting, believing these elements are essential to strong visual storytelling. Whether the subject is a person, an object, or a landscape, I strive to highlight its character and presence in a way that is both authentic and aesthetically compelling.
